MEIWO

Background & Design Brief

Meiwo: an interpretation, is a performative installation, that acts as an expansion of the photobook of it's namesake, by Jacopo Benassi. While he was an artist in residence in Guangzhou, China, Benassi compiled MEIWO, a photographic self-portrait of the artist’s experience in flower city. A soundtrack to the book was composed by the band Larsen and consists of two parts: Chronicle 1 and Chronicle 2.

For the performance elements, dancers obscure and reveal light unfolding into three key parts as scored to the soundtrack. The photos will be projected on the walls, on a reel, to match the runtime of the music.
